Prioritizing Your
Priorities
Scripture Reference – Proverbs 4:20-22 (N.K.J.V.)
My son, give
attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from
your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who
find them, and health to all their flesh.
The writings
contained in the Proverbs are widely ascribed to Solomon, King of Israel. It
was said of Solomon that he was the wisest man ever to live. (1 Kings 3:12) Therefore,
we should pay close attention to his wisdom.
Four Important
Precepts:
Give attention to
my words.
To attend to means to prick up or sharpen the ears for the purpose of hearing. We should let nothing distract us from seeking a full understanding of the truth contained in God’s word.
Incline your ear
to my sayings.
When one is
inclined toward something, he gives favor and place to it. Let us always favor
and give proper place to God’s word in every thought, decision and course of
action we take.
Do not let them
depart from your eyes.
Do not lose
sight of the truths contained in God’s word, for they will keep you on a
straight and correct course of life.
Keep them (God’s
words) in the midst of your heart.
God’s word must
be the center of your life, discerning your thoughts, directing your life and
guiding your actions.
The word of God
will truly bring life in its fullness to those who maintain a sufficient level
of them in daily living.
